Fullmetal Alchemist: Ed and Al are founded by their old alchemy teacher, Izumi. She has found out about about them betraying her teachings, and punishes the boys harshly. Meanwhile, Roy has now been allowed to work in Central. He asks if he can bring his subordinates, and his request is approved. Ed and Al are tied up on a train as Izumi with her husband enjoy a big feast. Winry comments on Izumi when the brothers say Winry met her before. Remembering what happened, the brothers were trying to use alchemy to stop a sand dam from breaking, but their circle gets washed away. That's when Izumi does alchemy without circles to stop the river from flooding. Later, the 2 beg to be her apprentices. She finally gives in after seeing the look in Edward's eyes and hearing about their parents, so she decides to give them a test to see if they're good enough after asking Pinako. After the flashback, the five people Roy chose receive phone calls and report to his office. Roy then tells them that they will be transferring to Central with him. After arriving in Izumi's home town, Dublith, the Elrics fear what will happen to them. Soon Izumi teaches them a lesson that it's better to fix things with their own hands instead of alchemy while fixing a few young boys' train. That's when a young girl named Manny runs up to Izumi telling them that her cat Chico is in trouble. a dog has chased it onto a roof of a house as they get there. Ed gets to the roof and sees that Chico died while giving birth to kittens. Ed manages to save a kitten that nearly falls off the roof. Manny asks Izumi to 'fix' Chico, but she sadly replies by saying that it's part of the circle of life. In a field, the Elrics and Izumi confront each other, as they ask her if she ever committed a human transmutation. She finds out about Ed's limbs and Al's body,t hen that they tried to resurrect their mother. After beating them senseless, she hugs them.
